FocalAreasText

FIA has three strategic focal areas which we use to identify complex issues, organise ourselves and then work on projects to solve those problems across multiple markets across Asia. The focal areas approach ensures we coordinate across multiple issues that overlap and connect.

Taking this approach means we mobilise resources more efficiently. It also gives us the ability to constantly horizon scan, analyse, and proactively work on the focal area issues with, and on behalf of, members across Asia.

Health, Nutrition & Innovation

FIA advocates a multi-stakeholder approach to addressing the dual burden of over-consumption and under nutrition. We are working to raise awareness of the steps the industry is taking in Asia to help address this complex challenge, and we are building effective partnerships between the private sector and governments throughout the region to meet specific public health goals. FIA harnesses the power of partnerships through evolve, a multi-stakeholder platform to co-create localised solutions that seeks to improve diets and stabilise the rates of malnutrition in Asia.

Smart Regulation, Trade & Safe Food

FIA is in the forefront in accelerating the smart regulation agenda to reduce the costs and burdens of regulation in order to facilitate trade. The end goal is to consider the consumer and allow for greater choice of healthy and nutritious existing food products and new or novel foods for the future through carefully designed regulations. FIA proactively engages with regulators through programmes that employ capacity building, sharing of science-based information and understanding what future proof regulations will look like across the largest consumer base in the world. We pay attention to emerging food safety and innovation trends with data collected and analysed on FIA’s Regulatory Hub information system.

Sustainability & Resilience

FIA takes a data-driven, information and country-specific approach to achieving the balance between responsible production and conscious consumption in a region of population growth and a rising middle-class. We address these complex challenges through supporting and co-developing regulations and standards, driving solutions through innovation to tackle issues such as packaging and food waste, and strengthening supply chains to be more resilient, efficient and sustainable. We build strategic partnerships between the private sector, governments and international organizations with the ultimate goal to build back stronger, smarter and cleaner communities.

FIA Coordinating Council

The Coordinating Council is made up of the industry's most senior business leaders and is the driving force behind FIA's mission to promote sustainable growth and support regional progressive policies and smart regulations that are science-based and relevant to countries across Asia.

ClustersText

Clusters

Clusters are designed to craft and maintain an inspiring vision over a 3-, 5- or even 10-year time horizon. They help reframe the difficult challenges we face as potential opportunities for new ways of seeing and learning, and should experiment relentlessly and elevate what works. By generating an exciting array of strategic options, we strive to be nimble enough to seize emerging opportunities in a fast-changing policy and regulatory landscape. The objective of the longer-term approach to the Clusters is not to eliminate risk but to increase the odds of success by embracing new methods and ways of working, so that we seek new opportunities for members to reduce red tape/costs while supporting growth opportunities.

SquadsText

Squads

Squads are small, autonomous and agile groups that work on the day-to-day issues and crisis that inhibit business operations and add significant cost. Unlike the Clusters, Squads are focused on the now and the immediate needs of members. Each Squad will have KPIs and plans ideally for the next one to two years to navigate the immediate regulatory, public affairs and policy challenges.
