Clusters
Clusters are designed to craft and maintain an inspiring vision over a 3-, 5- or even 10-year time horizon. They help reframe the difficult challenges we face as potential opportunities for new ways of seeing and learning, and should experiment relentlessly and elevate what works. By generating an exciting array of strategic options, we strive to be nimble enough to seize emerging opportunities in a fast-changing policy and regulatory landscape. The objective of the longer-term approach to the Clusters is not to eliminate risk but to increase the odds of success by embracing new methods and ways of working, so that we seek new opportunities for members to reduce red tape/costs while supporting growth opportunities.
Squads are small, autonomous and agile groups that work on the day-to-day issues and crisis that inhibit business operations and add significant cost. Unlike the Clusters, Squads are focused on the now and the immediate needs of members. Each Squad will have KPIs and plans ideally for the next one to two years to navigate the immediate regulatory, public affairs and policy challenges.
To align and channel FIA inputs as a collective body representing the food industry to provide an Asian perspective to the various Codex Committees when it comes to standards setting. The Squad also helps achieve FIA’s aim to coordinate with national industry associations (NIAs) and the national Codex Contact Points in this region to align FIA’s positions with the national positions, share knowledge of Codex and the industry’s expertise, and to support countries in implementing Codex standards.
To provide consistent recommendations and actions necessary for the food e-commerce activities in Asia.
To bring together labelling-related issues under a single Squad. The Squad shall provide recommendations to industry, regulators, and other relevant stakeholders pertaining to issues arising in the field of food labelling, while supporting FIA in determining the priorities and activities related to the FIA’s advocacy in order to achieve targets set.
To strengthen food safety fundamentals while at the same time build up strategic foresight and actions in supporting regulators and industry for better preparedness in fulfilling food safety in future.
To assist members in minimising the obstacles faced during the trade of halal foods and food ingredients and facilitate the establishment of mutual recognition agreement amongst halal certifying bodies, beginning with the countries in Southeast Asia.
To address key issues arising from food ingredients and provide recommendations and guidance to support harmonised regulatory approach in countries in the Asia Pacific region, as well as to promote agility in business innovation through the ease of use of ingredients.
Will incorporate the work of the previous Taxation Working Group and be expanded to provide strategic and tactical direction to support advocacy on fiscal and taxation initiatives affecting the food and beverage industry.
Focuses on addressing FOP labelling schemes, marketing restrictions, sugar/salt/fat policies and reformulation that are being discussed, proposed and introduced in Asia and around the world.
Develop credible and wide-ranging evidence-based communications-based narratives (advocacy strategies/toolkits) on both artificial and natural sweeteners, additives, preservatives and colourings; forge partnerships with credible stakeholders and consumers to support industry’s advocacy efforts.
Focuses on three key aspects of product packaging that impact members – producer responsibility and similar schemes; packaging standards (e.g. related to the use of recycled content in FCM); and packaging & materials innovation.
FIA convenes the China Squad with the purpose of strengthening support for its members’ advocacy and engagement related to the key issues under the FIA focal areas i.e. ((i) Regulations, Trade & Safe Food, (ii) Health, Nutrition & Innovation, and (iii) Sustainability & Resilience) in China.
