SINGAPORE – FIA has a new member in McCain Foods, the world's largest manufacturer of frozen French fries and potato specialties.
Bringing FIA's membership to an even dozen, McCain will be represented on the FIA Council by Regional CEO Fred Schaeffer. Schaeffer is former President and CEO of both McCain and Kraft Foods in Canada, where he twice served as Chairman of the Board of Food and Consumer Products of Canada (FCPC).
Speaking after his first FIA Council meeting in Hong Kong, Mr Schaeffer attributed his decision to join FIA to the growing importance of Asian markets to global business success, "Asia includes some of our most diverse and fastest-growing markets in the world right now. For this reason, I am delighted to join this impressive group of regional business leaders as together we address some of the non-competitive issues that are unique to our industry."
"We're thrilled to be joined by McCain," said FIA Executive Director Bev Postma. "And we're particularly excited to work with Fred, as he brings a wealth of industry association experience that will be extremely useful in guiding the organisation as it moves forward."
According to Postma, McCain's decision to join FIA is further testimony to the strength of the organisation's vision and mission.
"There is tremendous value in tackling the region's unique opportunities together, rather than individually," Postma said. "In the last twelve months, our members have demonstrated that by coming together on non-competitive issues, they can achieve a collective outcome that is far greater than the sum of their parts."
