New FIA Governance Board Appointed at 7th Annual General Meeting

As Food Industry Asia (FIA) continues its successful drive to build multi-stakeholder partnerships to address key society-wide challenges related to Food Safety, Health & Nutrition and Trade & Harmonisation, the newly elected Governance Board will play a key role in guiding the next phase of the association’s journey.

The new Governance Board, appointed at FIA’s seventh Annual General Meeting, which took place on 25 April in Singapore, will continue to reinforce the organisation’s goal to promote a climate for sustainable growth for food & beverage businesses in Asia, and to build credible and sustainable public-private partnerships, through the coming years.

The 2017-2018 Governance Board comprises a diverse team of seasoned industry leaders who represent a varied group of companies and categories that span the length and breadth of the food supply chain across Asia.

Mr Ehab AbouOaf, President – Asia Pacific, Middle East & North Africa, Mars, Inc. (Chocolate), has been elected FIA President; Mr Piet Hilarides, Chief Operating Officer, Consumer Products Asia, Royal FrieslandCampina, has been elected FIA Vice President; Mr Peter Van Deursen, Chief Executive Officer – Asia Pacific, Cargill, has been elected FIA Treasurer; and Mr Iain McLaughlin, President, ASEAN Business Unit, The Coca Cola Company, has been appointed FIA Secretary. 

   Mr Ehab AbouOaf, FIA President

Mr Ehab AbouOaf has served as Asia Pacific, Middle East & North Africa President of Mars Chocolate since 2015 and as a member of the Mars Global Chocolate Board of Management since October 2010. Prior to taking on his current role, he led the Mars Chocolate business in Asia Pacific. He joined Mars in 2000 and championed the company’s market entry into Egypt and then covered the North African and East Mediterranean region, leading 17 markets. Mr AbouOaf moved to Asia in 2007, when he served as General Manager for the China region.

  Mr Piet Hilarides, FIA Vice President

Mr Piet Hilarides has served as COO of FrieslandCampina’s Consumer Products Asia group since 2014, where he is responsible for the branded consumer business in countries including Indonesia, Myanmar and China. Prior to his current role, he was responsible for the organisation’s global Cheese, Butter & Milkpowder business.

   ​Mr Peter Van Deursen, FIA Treasurer

In addition to his role as CEO of Cargill Asia Pacific, Mr Peter van Deursen is also the business group leader for Cargill’s Food Ingredients and Bio-Industrial businesses in the Asia-Pacific region, responsible for leading the group’s business that serves food makers, food service companies and food retailers, along with industrial applications of bio-based products. He is also the global business leader for Cargill’s malting business.

   Mr Iain McLaughlin, FIA Secretary

Mr Iain McLaughlin is President of The Coca-Cola Company’s ASEAN business unit. In this role, he oversees company operations in 10 countries. Prior to this assignment, he was Senior Vice President of Global Juice and Still Brands, based in Atlanta, Georgia, USA; and before that, President of the Middle East and Southern Eurasia business unit based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). Mr McLaughlin joined Coca-Cola in 1998. He worked as Executive Assistant to the President of the Central Europe, Eurasia and Middle East Group before serving as Vice President of Europe, Eurasia, the Middle East and Africa for the McDonald's Division. Mr McLaughlin also serves as the Chairman of the ASEAN Committee for the US ASEAN Business Council.
