FEATURE: All McDonald’s packaging will be sustainable by 2025

McDonald’s has announced a landmark move to ensure 100 per cent of its packaging comes from renewable, recycled or certified sustainable sources within the next eight years.

 

At the moment, 50 per cent of the company’s customer packaging comes from these sources and 64 per cent of fibre-based packaging.

 

“As the world’s largest restaurant company, we have a responsibility to use our scale for good to make changes that will have a meaningful impact across the globe,” said Francesca DeBiase, McDonald’s Chief Supply Chain and Sustainability Officer. Read more about it here.

UNILEVER: Unilever Taps into Blockchain to Manage Tea Supply Chain

 

COCA COLA: Coca Cola to Train Vendors in Pune on Food Safety

Unilever has launched a one-year pilot project that leverages blockchain technology to manage transactions on its tea supply chain to maintain transparency on the supply chain, so both the company and the consumer know the origins of their tea.

 

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and Coca-Cola had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) last year that aimed to train 50,000 street food vendors throughout the country in next three years.

Danone is joining forces with the French government's 4/1000 international initiative on soil health, as part of its drive to support regenerative agriculture. The move supports Danone’s climate change commitments. The French group announced back in 2015 that it is working to make its full value chain carbon neutral by 2050.

KELLOGG’S: Kellogg’s presents its vision to reduce food waste

FrieslandCampina Việt Nam has been ranked among the 100 most sustainable businesses of 2017 for its contributions to the sustainable development of the country. The company has reduced the use of energy by 15 per cent and water by 25 per cent and cut CO2 emissions by 40 per cent compared to 2010.

 

By targeting where and when food waste occurs, the Kellogg Company wants to get to the heart of tackling the issue. Kellogg’s says that solutions based on economic principles and cross-sector partnerships are essential to solving this crisis, and has presented its vision for reducing post-harvest loss and food waste – from farm to table.
