FIA is pleased to welcome Melanie Vilarasau Slade to the Secretariat in her new role as Policy Director, starting 8 April.
With a strong mix of skills and expertise in public policy, regulation and international trade, particularly in the ASEAN region, Melanie will be a tremendous asset to the organisation’s policy projects. Prior to her role in FIA, she served as the Executive Director of the Europe-ASEAN Business Alliance (EABA), focusing on public policy issues related to trade and investment. Prior to this Melanie practised as a solicitor in London and Brussels specialising in EU law, and spent time at the European Commission’s trade cabinet.
Melanie is also currently a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for International Law in the National University of Singapore (NUS), where she focuses on international trade and food security issues.
“I’m looking forward to being part of FIA and contributing to the development of the organisation, especially with the upcoming launch of the ASEAN Food and Beverage Alliance (AFBA). This will be a significant development for the food industry in the region and I’m excited to have the opportunity to be involved in this critical phase of FIA’s journey,” said Melanie.
At FIA, Melanie will oversee the organisation’s policy and advocacy activities, and will manage the Public Affairs Committee. She will also be the key contact for AFBA.
“We’re thrilled to have Melanie join the team at FIA. Her experience and knowledge in international trade and public policy issues will contribute significantly to the organisation’s development and capabilities,” said FIA Executive Director, Bev Postma.
Melanie holds a Masters in International Food Governance from Universitat Oberta de Catalunya in Spain, and a Postgraduate Diploma in EU Competition Law from King’s College London. Prior to completing her legal studies, Melanie graduated with a First Class B.A. in Politics and French from Bristol University.
