As world population increases, the rising middle class expect more complex dietary options, consumers insist on full transparency, supply chains are the longest they have ever been and a new evolution of deliberate attack on food and beverage emerges, the industry must respond to resiliently prepare and ensure longevity.

Dr Joanne Taylor
Founder and Director,
Taylor Shannon International (TSI)

Dr Joanne Taylor (BSc, PgCert, PhD, Cert Ed.) takes a multidisciplinary approach to a diverse range of industry and government programs, combining expertise in risk management, food safety management, education, psychology and organisational culture. She is a Founder and Director at Taylor Shannon International (TSI), leading the development and implementation of government public health and food safety management programs, industry training and auditing projects in the UAE. She also leads the team who developed the Culture Excellence Program, a unique methodology to measure safety and quality culture. This is currently being delivered in partnership with Campden BRI, and has been adopted as a Voluntary Module by BRC Global Standards. 

Joanne has a BSc. in Psychology, Postgraduate Qualifications in HACCP (Pg Cert) and Teaching and Research (Cert Ed), and a PhD on the development and evaluation of a new approach to risk-based food safety management. 

Joanne has authored a large number of peer-reviewed journal articles and textbooks on food safety, HACCP, behaviour change and organisational culture, and was one of the lead developers of Safer Food Better Business (SFBB) and Menu-Safe, two of the most widely implemented HACCP systems for small businesses. She has developed a wide variety of practical, user-friendly training courses, textbooks and examinations (including materials with no written words) which are currently used in tens of thousands of businesses. 

Joanne has consulted to governments of the UK, Thailand, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman and Qatar, as well as working on projects for the World Health Organisation / Food Agriculture Organisation (WHO/FAO). She has trained thousands of industry professionals, government officials and university students in more than 30 countries in high-level food safety and HACCP courses as well as management and leadership, risk management and organisational culture.

Matthieu Vermesch

Matthieu founded VisVires New Protein in 2014 with a focus on innovative solutions to the acute inefficiencies of the food industry.They look for disruptive technologies to improve the interaction between food and health, solutions to tackle food waste, food safety & traceability, and to address the unsustainability of the protein production system.The fund has already deployed capital into two promising start-ups, Ynsect and Nuritas.

Matthieu has over 25 years’ experience in investment management. Most recently, as Senior Managing Director, Director of Research as well as a member of the Executive and Investment committees of Everest Capital. Matthieu has a postgraduate degree in Corporate Finance from Universite Paris Dauphine and graduate degree from Sciences Po.


David Mudd

David has over 30 years’ experience in the tech industry, focussing on IoT for the last six years. Originally an electronics engineer with the BBC, he then served as an Engineering Officer in the Royal Air Force. This led to delivering secure IT projects for the Ministry of Defence and complex optical telecommunications projects before moving into microelectronics and the development of IoT-based smarthome systems.

Before joining BSI in June 2017, he provided consulting and testing services to commercial and domestic IoT-related markets.


Ricky Lin

Ricky Lin is the founder of Life3 Biotech, a start-up company focusing on innovative functional foods and beverages through the use of natural plant-based ingredients; to address health concerns such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and osteoporosis attributed to poor nutrition and lifestyle habits. Life3's work on plant-based protein as an alternative to meat, bagged two out of five awards in the Singapore Food Innovation Product Award 2016. Their work has also been exclusively featured by the various media platform such as TechInnovation Singapore, Channel News Asia, Today, Asia Pacific Food Industry, The Edge Singapore as well as The South China Morning Post.

Apart from work, Ricky actively contributes to the local and international community. From leading the West Coast-Ayer Rajah GRC Youth Executive Committee for 10 years as a Chairperson to serving as the District Councillor to Mayor of South East Community Development Council, Ricky believes in championing changes through innovation and collaboration in cross-disciplinary studies.


Fraser Thompson 

Fraser is an experienced economist and management consultant, with deep experience in Asia and on sustainability issues. Fraser is a Director and co-founder of AlphaBeta, a strategy firm which specializes in sustainability issues. Fraser has led AlphaBeta’s work with the Business & Sustainable Development Commission (BSDC) on understanding the role of business in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He has also led several engagements on tackling plastic waste, including how to establish investment models that can help create closed-loop waste systems in Southeast Asia.

Prior to joining AlphaBeta, Fraser was a consultant for 9 years at McKinsey & Company. This included leading the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI), the economic research arm of McKinsey, in Southeast Asia and on sustainability topics. Prior to joining McKinsey, was a consultant at the World Bank, a lecturer in development economics at Oxford University and a consultant at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in Australia.

He holds a PhD and MPhil in economics from Oxford University and is a Rhodes Scholar.


Dr Semerdanta Pusaka

Dr Semerdanta Pusaka, or Danta, engages in various consulting activities and initiatives to support the companies adopting and implementing sustainability and social responsibility concept, standards, and principles in different industry sectors, including tourism and hospitality. Danta is an expert in strategic sustainability management and its relevant issues including sustainable business, inclusive business, sustainable finance, sustainability reporting and assurance, women empowerment, and human rights. He is also familiar with different sustainability standards and principles, among others are ISO 26000:2010 Guidance for Social Responsibility, Global Reporting Initiatives (GRI) Standards, Sustainability Reporting Guidelines of Sustainability Accounting Standard Board (SASB), AA1000 AccountAbility, and Social Return on Investment (SROI).

Together with other Asian consultants, he established SR Asia that is headquartered in India in order to strengthening the global network for advocating social responsibility practices in Asian countries. Aside from his work with SR Asia, Danta also a co-founder of the Aicon Global Indonesia and the International Society of Sustainability Professional Indonesia, an expert editor for the online magazine, and has involved in many projects of various organizations , such as Trisakti Sustainability Centre (TSC), Indonesia UN Global Compact Network (IGCN), Indonesia Business Council for Sustainable Development (IBCSD), Caux Round Table (CRT), United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Asian Productivity Organization (APO)Tokyo, and Association of Southeast Asia Nation (ASEAN).

His postings in Hong Kong, Philippines, Thailand, Australia and United Arab Emirates include international management positions working as CEO, Country Manager and Global Product Manager for internationally recognized organizations.

As an Organizational Resilience and Supply Chain Compliance professional, David is well versed with the needs of business, global brands and retailers wishing to protect their brands and implement the necessary best practice guidelines to ensure their businesses can stand the test of time. He is a dual United Kingdom/Australian citizen, born and raised in Thailand, lived and educated in Australia and based in Hong Kong, China for the last 14 years where he was the Managing Director of Asia Pacific region for BSI Group covering 13 Countries including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, India and Hong Kong.
