Food Industry Asia (FIA) is pleased to announce that BENEO, GSK and Indofood are the latest companies to join our expanding network of responsible, innovative businesses operating within Asia.
BENEO develops functional ingredients for food and feed, which are naturally derived from chicory root, sugar beet, rice and wheat. Formed in 2007, BENEO is a subsidiary of the Südzucker Group, and has long-term experience in developing and producing functional ingredients. BENEO operates globally and has sales offices in Asia, within India and Singapore.
Mr Christian Philippsen, Managing Director – Asia-Pacific of BENEO, said: “We are very excited to partner with FIA and join a network of like-minded organisations trying to encourage healthier and more balanced diets. BENEO aims to be the link between nutrition and health and we hope to bring our technical expertise and nutritional know-how to support more food manufacturers in developing better and healthier products.”
BENEO ingredients offer manufacturers opportunities to develop food & beverage (F&B) products that are nutritionally optimised with less or no sugar or fat, fibre-enriched, gluten-free or dairy-free, while improving taste and texture.
“Our diet plays an important role in our health. With unhealthy eating habits leading to a rise in incidences of non-communicable diseases such as obesity and diabetes, consumers and governments are paying more attention to the importance of having a balanced diet. The challenge for food manufacturers is making sure products are good for health and still taste great,” added Mr Philippsen. “BENEO can support partners throughout the product development process, from providing market intelligence, to in-depth knowledge on physiology and legislation.”
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is a leading consumer healthcare company that develops and markets some of the world's best loved brands and products.
Ms Sara Bland, GSK’s Vice President of Family Nutrition, said: “At GSK, we aim to help people around the world do more, feel better and live longer. It is only natural that we partner with FIA to share knowledge and solutions to improve the wellbeing of consumers in Asia. GSK has a huge footprint in Asia and our well-loved brands are household names in many countries in the region. We look forward to bringing our long-standing expertise in consumer health to the association.”
“We believe that the food industry plays an important role in helping consumers make positive choices for their health. By joining FIA and gaining access to valuable industry information, we can stay updated on important issues that might affect our business and can ensure that our products are meeting the needs of consumers in Asia,” Ms Bland added.
GSK’s hot drinks brands and digestive support products bring reassuring comfort to millions of people worldwide. Horlicks, GSK’s largest nutrition brand, is served in 40 million homes in India, where it supports nutrition and wellness. GSK’s antacid brands, Tums and ENO, have a global presence, with India being the largest ENO market in the world.
